Roberto Recchia, director

From Italy, Roberto Recchia graduated as an actor from Accademia dei Filodrammatici in Milano and combined acting and directing in theatre-productions for many years.
In 2001 he was asked to direct The Marriage of Figaro at the Wexford Festival Opera. That’s when his great passion for opera started, and he has since been a constant Guest Director at the Wexford Festival Opera. He has done 20 operas there so far.

Roberto has also directed Operas in his home country Italy. He is a returning Guest Director at the opera houses in Catania, Bergamo, Fano, Vicenza, Bologna and Lugo, and he has also done his directing debut at La Scala in Milano.

The Marriage of Figaro, L’elisir d’amore , Cavalleria Rusticana, Barber of Seville, Rigoletto, The Magic Flute, Don Pasquale, La Bohéme and Il viaggio a Reims are some of the operas he has directed. A speciality of his are short versions of well known works, that he has made into his own art form.

Roberto also does acting at concerts with symphony orchestras all around Italy, and has spent a lot of time teaching young opera singers the noble art of acting.

Lorenzo Coladonato, conductor

Born an bred in Italy, Lorenzo studied piano, composition, and conducting at the Verdi-Conservatoire in Milano. After his graduation he started out as a pianist and coach in Zürich, where he also made his debut as an Opera Conductor.
After nine years in Zürich he became the Chief Conductor for Baden-Baden’s Philharmonic Orchestra, where he also conducted opera. Since then he has been the Chief Conductor at State Opera in Mersin, Turkey.

Some of the other orchestras he has worked with as a Guest Conductor include Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Zurich Opera House Orchestra, Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, Musikkollegium Winterthur, Symphony Orchestra of New Russia – Moscow, the National Philharmonic of Russia, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Norddeutsche Philharmonie – Rostock, Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie – Konstanz, China National Centre for Performing Arts Orchestra – Beijing.

Tosca, La Bohéme, Don Carlo, Macbeth, Eugen Onegin, La Sonnambula and Turandot are operas on his repertoire, but also unusal works like Genoveva by Robert Schumann.
Lorenzo has conducted at many opera festivals in the past, but The Magic Flute will be his debut at Opera på Skäret.

Sven Östberg, scenographer

Sven Östberg has been the scenographer for most of the operas here at Opera på Skäret; Aida, Carmen, Lucia di Lammermoor, Barberaren i Sevilla, La Traviata , The Flying Dutchman, Madama Butterfly and Don Carlo.

He has also been a Director, Revue Writer, Circus Artist and Principal at Wendelsbergs Folkhögskola, where he teaches actors.

Sigyn Stenqvist, costume

Set Designer, Costume Designer and Décor Painter who works in the UK, Denmark and Hong Kong. In Sweden she has worked at Riksteatern, Cirkus Cirkör, and Teater3 to mention a few. She has a wide range of design experience and has worked in theatre, circus, dance, opera and advertising.

She has previously done the costume design for La Bohéme, Carmen and Don Carlo at Opera på Skäret.

Caroline Romare, costume

Caroline Romare is a Scenographer, Costume Designer and Exhibition Designer who has experience of doing both small and very large projects like The Bollywood Opera in Botkyrka.

She has previously done costumes design at Dalateatern in Falun, but also been a Project Manager and Designer of Bergrummet – Stockholm’s new toy- and animation museum. She was the Costume Designer at Opera på Skäret last year in Don Carlo.

Kevin Wyn-Jones, lighting

He has been the Lighting Master at Folkoperan from 1998-2004, while also working at other theatres and opera houses in Sweden and Europe. He is often hired at opera houses in countries like Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania, Germany and Poland.

At Opera på Skäret he has been the Lighting Designer for Lucia di Lammermoor, Barber of Seville, La Traviata, The Flying Dutchman, Madama Butterfly and Don Carlo.


Opera på Skäret have the pleasure of introducing an international singing cast with both experienced singers of the highest calibre, and young promising singers in the beginning of their career.

Tamino – Kjetil Støa

After studying at the music conservatory in Trondheim and the Opera Academy in Stockholm, this Norwegian tenor already have a broad repertoire, with roles like Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Tito in La Clemenza di Tito, Rodolfo in La Bohème, Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly, Alfredo in La Traviata, Nemorino in The Love Potion and Calaf in Turandot.

He has sung on many Scandinavian opera stages such as Den Norske Opera, Göteborgsoperan, Norrlandsoperan, Folkoperan, Oslo Operafestival, Nordnorsk opera, the opera in Kristiansunds and Norska riksteatern, but also in France with Opus Opera.

Tamino in The Magic Flute will be Kjetil’s debut at Opera på Skäret.

Tamino – Tobias Westman

Swedish tenor who after his studies at Operahögskolan in Stockholm in 2015 have done many opera roles. Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Albert in Die Todte Stadt, Gennaro in Lucretia Borgia, Jussi in Silverfågeln by Mats Larsson and Gastone in La Traviata.

He has sung on stages such as Malmö Opera, Wermland Opera, Vattnäs konsertlada, Potsdam Early Music Festival and Copenhagen Opera Festival.

Now he will make his debut at Opera på Skäret’s main stage as Tamino.

Pamina – Sabina Bisholt

Sabrina is a Swedish Soprano, who after graduating from the Opera Academy in Stockholm in 2016, has had a very fast moving career on the Swedish stages with roles like Mimi in La Bohéme, Marguerite i Faust and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni.

Sabina has already sung at the Royal Opera House in Stockholm, Norrlandsoperan, Malmö Opera and Wermlandoperan, plus guest played with Mimi in Schaffhausen, Schweiz, and won the first prize in the Opernspiele Munot competition.

Pamina in the Magic Flute will be her first role at Opera på Skäret!

Pamina – Lauryna Bendžiūnaitė

Lithuanian Soprano, who after studying at the Music Academy in Lithuania and Royal Academy of Music in London, have done a long row of roles on different stages in Europe.

Some of these roles are Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Zerlina in Don Giovanni and Musetta in La Bohéme.

She has sung at The Royal Opera House in Stockholm, The Opera in Stuttgart, The Opera in Vilnius and Opera National du Rhin with Conductors like Sylvain Cambreling, Daniele Rustioni, Kyrill Karabits, Ben Gernon and Christian Curnyn.

Pamina will be her first role at Opera på Skäret!

Papageno – Henry Neill

Henry Neill is an English baritone who studied at The Royal Academy of Music in London and a member of the soloist ensemble at the Nationaltheater and Staatskapelle in Weimar.

Some of the roles that are already on his repertoire are Papageno in The Magic Flute, Figaro and Count Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro, Masetto i Don Giovanni, Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte, Angelotti in Tosca and Freddy in My Fair Lady.

He has done guest appearances on stages like Theater Erfurt, Opera North, English Touring Opera, West Green House Opera and the International Holland Music Festival.

Papageno will be his debut at Opera på Skäret.

Papageno – Timothee Varon

Timothee Varon, a young French baritone, also a member of l’académie de l’Opera National de Paris, is now doing his international debut.

In his home country, he has previously done the title role in Don Giovanni, Belcore in The Elixir of Love, Morales in Carmen and Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus.

Outside of the National Opera in Paris, he has also sung at the opera in Grenoble, Opera Caldestin and Jeune Opéra de France.

The role of Papageno will be his debut at Opera på Skäret.

Queen of Night – Nazan Fikret

Nazan is an English Soprano who studied at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
She has previously done roles like Euridice in Orfeus, Euridike and Karolka in Jenufa, and Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte. She has also had roles in more modern works such as Diane Disney in The Perfect American and the most recent one being Elin in Agreed.
Glyndebourne, English National Opera, Garsington Opera, Nederlandse Reiseopera and Wexford Festival Opera are some of the other opera stages she has appeared on.

Queen of Night is the role she has sung the most, but it will be the first time at Opera på Skäret.

Queen of Night – Giulia Bolcato

Giulia is an Italian soprano who studied at the Conservatoire in Venice, and the Foscari University of Venice.

Despite her young age, Giulia has already done roles like Adina in L’elisir d’amore, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Elvira in The Italian Girl in Algiers, Ninetta in The Thieving Magpie and Lisa in La Sonnambula.

She has worked at the opera houses in Venice, Florens, Vincenza, Como and Pesaro in her home country, but also in Wurzburg, Germany and Innsbruck in Austria.

She will make her debut at Opera på Skäret as Queen of Night.

Sarastro – Karl Huml

Karl Huml is a Bass from Australia who now lives in Vienna. After finishing his studies in his home country, he made his debut at the Sydney Opera House. He later started his career in Europe after winning The German Operatic Award.

Some of his previous roles are; the title role in Don Quicotte, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Ramfis in Aida, Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Ferrando in Il Trovatore, Sarastro in The Magic Flute and Don Basilio in The Barber of Seville.

He has worked at the opera houses in Köln, Hamburg, Bremen, Esse and Volksoper Wien as well as the opera houses in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

Last year he did an critically acclaimed interpretation of Filippo in Opera på Skäret’s performances of Don Carlo and returns this year as Sarastro.

Sarastro – Vladislav Solodyagin

Vladislav is a Russian Bass, who studied at the conservatoire in St Petersburg, has done all the great bass roles all around Germany.

Some of the roles he has on his repertoire are Gremin in Eugéne Onegin, Daland in The Flying Dutchman, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Sarastro in The Magic Flute, Sparafucile in Rigoletto and Heinrich in Lohengrin.

The Opera in St Petersburg, Staatsoper in Stuttgart, Staatstheatre Augustburg, Halle Opera House, the opera houses in Meiningen, Cottbus, Gelsenkirchen, Würzburg and Ulm are some of the stages where he does regular guest appearances.

Sarastro will be his first role at Opera på Skäret.

Speaker – Lars Fosser

This Norwegian/ Danish Bass-baritone have previously done roles like Tonio in Pagliacci, the title roles in Nabucco and Rigoletto, Posa in Don Carlo, Luna in Il Trovatore as well as Scarpia in Tosca, Scharpless in Madama Butterfly, and Wotan and Alberich in The Rhinegold.

He has also sung at Copenhagen Opera House, Dresden Staatsoper, The National Opera in Oslo and Opera Lyrique des Clermont-Ferrand in France.This will be his first time at Opera på Skäret in one of his favourite roles, Speaker in The Magic Flute.

Papagena – Emily Kyte

Emily Kyte is an English  Mezzo- soprano who has studied at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and graduated in 2018.

Some of the roles on her repertoire are Rosina in Barber of Seville, Annio in la Clemenza di Tito, Zulma in The Italian Girl in Algiers, Chrysaea in The Arcadians and Secretary of the consulate in The Consul.She has also sung at the British Youth Opera, Opera della Luna and Garsington Opera.

This will be her international debut as Papagena in The Magic Flute at Opera på Skäret.

First Lady – Hanna Wåhlin

A Swedish Soprano who after studying at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Opera Academy in Copenhagen, has performed first and foremost in the Scandinavian countries.

Some of her previous roles are Desdemona in Otello, La Contessa in The Marriage of Figaro, Fiordirligi in Cosi fan tutte, Giulietta in I Capuleti e i Montecchi and Mercedes in Carmen.

Other stages she has performed on are The Royal Opera House in Copenhagen, Oslo Opera Festival, and the Swedish opera stages Vadstena Castle, Operafabriken in Skåne and Smålandsoperan.

Now she will be the First Lady, for the first time at Opera på Skäret.

Second Lady – Rebecca Fjällsby

Rebecca Fjällsby is a Swedish Mezzo-soprano, who has studied at the Opera Academy in Stockholm.

On her repertoire are roles like Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier, Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro, Charlotte in Werther and Siebel in Faust.

She made her debut at Malmö Opera, but has also sung at The Royal Opera House in Stockholm, Wermland Opera and Smålandsoperan.

She has previously done Tebaldo in Don Carlo and Gianetta in The Elixir of Love at Opera på Skäret. This time she will be the Second Lady in The Magic Flute.

Second Lady – Susanna Sundberg

Susanna Sundberg is a Swedish Alto who has studied at the Opera Academy in Stockholm.

Some of her previous roles are Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, Mary in The Flying Dutchman. Amastre in Xerxes, Mercedes in Carmen and Magdalena in Rigoletto. She has also done roles in newly- written operas such as Eve in Du min drömprins by S.M Emanuelsson and Patricia/Lotta in Sömnkliniken by Unander- Scharin. She made her debut at Vadstena Castle, and has since performed at Folkoperan, Wermland Opera , Göteborgsoperan, The Royal Opera House in Stockholm and Malmö Opera.

In 2016 she did Mary in The Flying Dutchman at Opera på Skäret, and now she returns as the Third Lady in The Magic Flute.

Monostatos – Chris Lysack

This Canadian tenor received his formal training at Indiana University as a concert pianist before completing his vocal studies at Manhattan School of Music in New York and the International Opera Studio at Staatsoper in Hamburg.

Chris has performed as a leading tenor at the Staatsoper Hamburg, Landestheater Salzburg, Theater Aachen, Theater Osnabrück, Landestheather Linz, and the Theater Bremen. He began his singing career with young-artist engagements at Chautauqua Opera and Glimmerglass Opera in New York.

 Lysack’s repertoire is broad, ranging from Florestan (Fidelio) and Cavaradossi (Tosca), to the title roles of Lohengrin, Les contes d’Hoffmann and Peter Grimes are some of his favourites.

Genius 1 – Leo Erni Rossbäck

Leo comes from Uppsala and he is studying at Uppsala Musikklasser.

Genius 1 – Ebbe Folkesson

Ebbe comes from Örebro and he is a singer in Olaus Petri Gosskör and studying at Örebro Musikklasser.

Genius 2 – Matheo Lindberg Vivien

Matheo comes from Stockholm and he is studying at Adolf Fredriks Musikklasser.

Genius 2 – Kristin Leoson

Kristin comes from Stockholm and she is studying at Adolf Fredriks Musikklasser.

Genius 3 – Miranda Lundin

Miranda comes from Stockholm and she is studying at Adolf Fredriks Musikklasser.

Genius 3 – Elina Forslund

Elina comes from Västerås and she is studying at Västerås Musikklasser.

The Priest – Jonatan Lönnqvist

Jonatan Lönnqvist has studied at The Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, Manne’s College of Music and the Mediterranean Opera Studio.

At Operas på Skäret he previously portrayed the role of Torgny, Dalason and a Cantor in “Kronofogdarne & Slåtterölet” and has also done the newly created role as Il Tedesco in “The Barber of Seville”.

At Läckö Castle he performed in Daniel Fjellström’s opera “Det går an”.

He has also been employed in the opera choir at Malmö Opera, Folkoperan and The Royal Opera in Stockholm, and performed in Radiokören and Eric Ericson’s Chamber Choir.

Jonatan also works as choir teacher at Västerås Music Classes.

Guard 1 – Thomas Bärlin

Thomas will be singing at Opera på Skäret for the sixth year running this year. He has previously sung in the choir and did the role of Giuseppe in La Traviata 2015 and the Official Registrar in Madama Butterfly 2017. Thomas has also sung in Jesus Christ Superstar in Stockholm, which was played during the Water Festival 1992-1996, Kyssen at Folkteatern in Gävle 2011 and Canio in Opera Tättinpås rendition of Pajazzo 2017.

Guard 1 – Martin Lindau, Tenor

After his singing studies at Musikhögskolan Ingesund in Arvika, Sweden and the Music Conservatoir in Como, Italy, Martin has worked in places like Hamburg, London, and Bergamo, Desio, Varese and Gazzada in Italy.

He has done the title roles in Wagners` Lohengrin, konsertant 2013, Don Basilio in The marriage of Figaro 2015 and Cavaradossi in Tosca, 2017. He has also done roles in more modern works such as Mathias Husman’s opera “Dame mot Noten” and Stephen Fry’s opera The life to Come. He also did the title role in Sweeny Todd in Arvika 2010. Martin have previously sung in the opera choir at Opera på Skäret.

Guard 2 – Philip Hartman

Philip Hartman is a Swedish Bass Baritone who studied at the Music Academy in Malmö and Vadstena Song- and Piano Academy. He is an experienced concert- and ensemble singer who made his opera debut in the summer of 2018 in the Chamber Opera South’s rendition of Die Fledermaus. Now he is doing his debut at Opera på Skäret’s stage as the guard 2 in The Magic Flute.
