Here at Skäret, a sacrificial grove is currently taking shape. It is the set designer Sven Östberg and his team who are hard at work. It is in such a sacrificial grove, somewhere in Gaul during the time when the area was occupied by the Romans, that Opera på Skäret’s production of Norma is set. One of the two trees in the sacrificial grove is very large and badly damaged, just like the Gallic society.
The tree is now fully built. It has been a challenge in several ways. The tree is eight and a half meters tall and contains a spiral staircase. Such a construction presents quite a few structural problems, which have now been solved.
In a few weeks, and after 150 liters of paint, the world in which the drama Norma takes place will be completely finished. Then it will be time for the premiere. But rest assured, there will be polishing and touching up until the very last moment, as there always is. When the curtain rises, the last specks of dust will drift down to the ground.
