Imagine a Saturday or Sunday morning at Stockholm Central Station. On the platform, a classic train set stands waiting. You step aboard and are welcomed by historic carriages adorned with velvet, polished wood panels, and an atmosphere that breathes of times gone by. You find your seat, and together with around a hundred fellow travellers, the train slowly rolls out of the station.
The journey carries you through the Swedish summer landscape. Before long, it is time to settle into the dining car, where lunch is served. When the train comes to a halt, you step out onto a small wooden platform, situated right beside Opera på Skäret — the only opera house in the world with its own railway platform.
Before you, Lake Ljusnaren stretches wide and glistening. The grand opera house — a former timber warehouse — rises proudly, its angled beams painted in red and white. A sight both majestic and warmly inviting.
Soon, the auditorium’s 800 seats are filled. The doors close, the orchestra tunes its instruments, the conductor steps onto the podium, and the lights dim. The maestro makes his entrance, and the performance begins. The overture resounds magnificently through the opera house, renowned for its extraordinary acoustics.
On stage, you are met by international soloists from across the globe, joined by the opera chorus and orchestra, in an operatic experience that moves you to the very core.
During the interval, you can enjoy coffee and something sweet by the lakeshore, savouring the summer evening before the performance continues.
When the applause has finally faded, a three-course dinner awaits on board the train home. The conversations continue, impressions gently merge, and you roll back toward Stockholm — enriched with memories and experiences.
